President of Nutrition, Dr. Einar Wathne of EWOS Cargill will set the scene and be followed up by Norwegian authorities presenting the framework the industry is operating within. Prof. Dr. Frank Nilsen, Director of Sea Lice Research Centre for the development of new vaccine tools , UiB, Dr. Borghild Hillestad, newly appointed Genetics Manager in SalmoBreed about the potential that lies within the salmon’s genes, and finally Dr. Gordon Ritchie, Group Manager on Fish health & welfare from Marine Harvest will give a global status on the combate of Sea Lice from the Global Salmon Initaitve and what needs to be addressed in his opinion.
Output of the workshop
This ZERO LICE workshop is aiming at providing input for a coordinated innovation commitment as part of the NCE Seafood Innovation Cluster. This commitment will lead to the first version of a Best Management Practice (BMP) in order to reach Norway’s goal of ZERO Lice.
Nofima, as a partner of NASF and a member of NCE and with its interdisciplinary research competence in aquaculture, is facilitator of the DAY ZERO – ZERO LICE. Nofima will follow up on this initiative to create the first version of a Best Management Practice in collaboration with the industry players and researchers, participating at the DAY ZERO – ZERO LICE workshop.
