Shipping is facing increasing demands for emission reductions. In anticipation of new, emission-free fuels becoming widely available, the industry is looking for ways to streamline its energy use and reduce fossil fuel consumption. Digital technology provides many new tools here.
On Wednesday, April 17, Maritime CleanTech, in collaboration with EDIH Oceanopolis, invites you to a very special SEA lunch at the port terminal at Skolten, as part of One Ocean Week.
Here you will hear about the new project GASS – Green AI for Sustainable Shipping – which will use machine learning and digital twins to optimize fuel consumption on ships and reduce emissions by 20 percent.
You will also hear from two international shipping companies based in Bergen – Grieg Star and Utkilen – about how digitalization, data and AI play into their strategy for decarbonizing the fleet.
Last but not least, you will hear about how Oceanopolis can help companies in the ocean industries "boost" their digital development and competence!

About GAS
The shipping industry has traditionally been slow to adopt digital technologies, resulting in suboptimal energy use. The new project GASS (Green AI for Sustainable Shipping) aims to change this by developing new, AI-based solutions for optimized route planning and fuel consumption. By combining machine learning algorithms with digital twins for advanced performance analysis, GASS aims to enable a 20% reduction in fuel consumption for vessels across different vessel segments.
GASS is a "Green Platform" project, funded by the Research Council of Norway, Innovation Norway and Siva. The project is led by NAVTOR with partners Simula Research Laboratory, Scandinavian Reach Technologies, Grieg Star, SinOceanic Shipping, Maritime CleanTech and Sustainable Energy.
