We have been talking about circularity in the seafood industry for 20 years – what is the actual status and how can we take it a step further and translate research and development into circularity in practice?

In the first part of the day, project leaders and participants will present specific projects from Vestland County Municipality's grant scheme Sustainable Value Creation, FORREGION and Green Region Vestland:

  • Compact production of oil and meal from salmon (Clear Ocean AS – Stig Randal)
  • From fish waste to Jetfuel (Fjell Technology Group AS – Halvard Madsen)
  • Preliminary project for mapping opportunities for green business development in fisheries and aquaculture industries (Måløy Vekst AS & Hub for Ocean – Ingeborg Skrefsrud
  • Symbiose Fjordane – Blue waste, green resource (Hub for Ocean – Stein Kvalsund)
  • Does salt hinder circular value chains in aquaculture? (The NCE Seafood – Elise Sæle Dahle)
  • Biochar produced on sludge from edible fish can be used in cultivation medium (Toppe horticulture – Jørn Erik Toppe)
  • Industrial symbiosis from land-based farming (The NCE Seafood – Elise Sæle Dahle)

We continued with a panel discussion about how we can achieve more circularity in the seafood industry with Hans Kleivdal (NORCE), Krister Hoaas (Sjømat Norge), NCE Seafood (Solveig Holm) and WWF (Fredrik Myhre).

After a simple lunch, there will be a launch of the dashboard for marine value chains by Lene Borgen Waage (Vestland County Council), a presentation of a report on measurement tools for circular economy in the seafood industry by Renée Bechmann (NORCE), and a discussion on how we should take the next step.
