The experts stressed the importance of establishing common standards and communication to improve fish welfare. Björgólfur Hávarðsson highlighted the need for long-term goals and integrating fish welfare into investment decisions at the management level. Collaboration between industry, research and authorities was described as essential to prioritizing animal welfare.

Gunnar Molland from BioSort AS introduced innovative methods for collecting data on individual fish through camera technology, and Eirik Svendsen from Sintef Ocean shared insights on collecting physiological and behavioral data via advanced implants.

Learning from other industries

Anders Sleire from NORCE presented insights on data collaboration in the insurance industry, where Norwegian insurance companies have collected data to optimize fraud detection, while EY contributed on how generative AI and rich language models can improve distribution processes.

The day was filled with great presentations and networking opportunities to discuss how the aquaculture industry can use data and technology to achieve new sustainability and welfare goals. With the launch of the Seafood Digital competency program and discussions about digital product passports and new market requirements from 2026, HavExpo AS sets the stage for a future where data and collaboration are the key to success.
