European Sludge Network: A network for sustainable solutions for the aquaculture industry

The network serves as a platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration and innovation, with the goal of maximizing resource utilization and reducing the environmental impact of the aquaculture industry.

One of the main focuses of the network is to explore new uses for fish sludge, including the production of biochar as a soil conditioner, nutrient recovery and the development of circular solutions that connect aquaculture and agriculture. Collaboration between research communities and industry is crucial to identify and implement innovative solutions that can contribute to a more sustainable future for the aquaculture industry.

The European Sludge Network works closely with organisations such as the European Sustainable Phosphorus Platform (ESPP) and the European Aquaculture Technology and Innovation Platform (EATIP), both of which work to promote innovation and sustainability in the industry. Through sharing research and best practices, the network plays a key role in shaping future policies and solutions for aquaculture sludge management in Europe.

Members of NCE Seafood can become part of the European Sludge Network and participate in this important collaboration. For more information, contact Ann Cecilie Hilling at NCE Aquaculture or Cathrine Ulvante from NCE Seafood to become part of the network and attend the next meeting.
