Lina Nøstebakken, professor at NHH, today focused on how important it is for the industry to cooperate to reduce its environmental footprint. In industries where players produce relatively similar products, the entire industry will share a possible bad reputation. It is therefore important that players do not just focus on their own path, but that they cooperate to make the entire industry cleaner.
Ocean Forest
The Bellona Environmental Foundation and Lerøy Seafood Group have joined forces to form the company Ocean Forest. Ocean Forest CEO Harald Sveier was with us at today's meeting. Ocean Forest aims to develop the most sustainable food production possible by keeping the ocean clean and at the same time reducing the environmental footprint of aquaculture. The vision is to increase food production from the ocean without putting pressure on coastal fish stocks. The previous competing companies have taken seriously the motto - "Together we are stronger".
Underwater drone environmental monitoring in aquaculture
Andreas Morland, CEO of SeaSmart, informed about how underwater drones can measure environmental conditions in the cage. Seasmart has developed a drone that continuously measures environmental conditions in a wireless, cost-effective and maintenance-free way. The drones can provide information about how the fish are doing and in this way, better planning can be achieved, feed waste and mortality can be reduced.
Digitalization - sustainable development in the seafood industry?
Our own Tanja Hoel from NCE Seafood attended the meeting to talk about the pilot project "Aqua Cloud". Here we will collect data from the enormous amounts generated daily, in a database to better provide new knowledge about, for example, sea lice problems.
