Effective recruitment with a new digital solution
NCE Seafood has launched a new career portal for its popular Seafood Trainee program. The digital platform makes it easier for companies to find qualified candidates among young talents who want a career in the seafood industry. At the same time, students can easily apply for relevant positions that are published directly in the portal.
"We see a need for innovation and expertise in the aquaculture industry. Through Seafood Trainee, we want to make it easier for companies to find the smart minds of the future who can drive the industry forward," says cluster manager Trude Hagland.

New record with 800 applicants!
Interest in the Seafood Trainee program has grown significantly in recent years. In 2024, the program received over 600 applications, and this year the program set a record with a whopping 800 applicants! Program manager Lena Bekken is optimistic:
"The new portal gives companies a unique opportunity to find talent in a structured and efficient way. We hope this will lead to more companies daring to invest in new graduates."
No obligation and flexible for businesses
One of the biggest advantages of the new career portal is that it is completely non-binding for companies. If they do not find a candidate who fits their needs, they are free to refrain from hiring a trainee. This provides a low threshold for participation and makes it easier for more companies to try out the scheme.

"We have chosen to design the portal this way because we have great faith in the qualified applicants the program attracts. We are confident that companies will easily find a candidate who fits their needs," explains program manager Bekken.
9 out of 10 get permanent jobs after the program
A key success factor for the Seafood Trainee program is how satisfied previous companies have been with the program. As many as 9 out of 10 trainees are offered permanent jobs with the company after completing the program, but there is no requirement for the company to hire. This emphasizes both the quality of the candidates and the value they add to the companies.
"Companies clearly see the value that young talent adds," says Bekken.
Young talents lift the industry
Seafood Trainee is the first Norwegian trainee program in the seafood industry and has had over 160 participants since its inception. These young, newly graduated talents bring with them expertise, motivation and new perspectives that can help solve some of the industry's biggest challenges.
"The young talents have important expertise that can help strengthen sustainability and innovation in our industry. In this way, companies that hire trainees invest in future development," concludes Hagland.
