"Hordaland is the powerhouse for aquaculture and when we are so lucky to have Bente Torstensen on the team, it is natural that she has an office in Bergen. The dialogue with many of the major players in the aquaculture industry and the collaboration with NCE Seafood will become even easier," says Øyvind Fylling-Jensen, CEO of Nofima.

Bente Torstensen has a long career at the research institute Nifes, but for the past year has worked as group manager for feed and fish performance in Marine Harvest's global R&D department.

Leaving Marine Harvest with a heavy heart
"My time at Marine Harvest has been fantastic, and it is not with a light heart that I leave an exciting company and good colleagues. But when the position at Nofima came up, I felt that I simply had to seize this unique opportunity. Working within research with the opportunity to provide research-based knowledge to the business community is incredibly exciting. I am very much looking forward to starting the position on August 1st and am looking forward to a good collaboration with the aquaculture industry, one of the most exciting global industries," says Bente Torstensen.

The Aquafeed division is divided into five departments that cover the entire value chain in the aquaculture industry. In total, more than 130 people work in the division throughout the country. In Bergen, the Aquafeed Technology Centre is also being built in collaboration with, among others, the University of Bergen and Uni Research.

Good geographical spread
Nofima, headquartered in Tromsø, is divided into three divisions: Food, Fisheries and Aquaculture. The division management for land-based food production is located in Ås, while the fisheries division is managed in Tromsø. With the aquaculture director in Bergen, Nofima has good geographical distribution. The research institute also has departments in Stavanger and on Sunndalsøra.
