The research project is a collaboration between Nofima, the Institute of Marine Research, the Veterinary Institute, Nord University and the University of Stirling, UK.
The level of knowledge about fish welfare in Norway is high, but the knowledge is not always easily accessible to those who need it. Good fish welfare means that farmed fish have enough and nutritious food, enough space, minimal human handling, and an absence of suffering.
The research project, which has a cost framework of around seven million kroner, will help those working in aquaculture to become even more confident about what constitutes good fish welfare. The employees will be able to use it when they work on fish farms. Making welfare-friendly production practices visible is central to the project.
