IMG_3125 Youth gain insight into our most important industries
– Ocean Talent Camp is a meeting place for young people who are faced with educational and career choices. It will be an exciting meeting with role models, companies, and organizations in the ocean industries, says Anne-Kristine Øen, general manager of the Maritime Forum Bergen Region.
– The purpose is to increase students' knowledge about the marine industries, working life, and the society we live in. Young people are helped to define themselves and their own talents and areas of interest, says Benedicte Skogen from NCE Seafood, who is project manager for Ocean Talent Camp Vest.
Origin in shipping – record registration from the seafood industry
Ocean Talent Camp has been running since 2013 as a program for the ocean-based industries, and first emerged in the wake of Nor-Shipping. The concept has later been reused in both Ålesund and Bodø, both places with great success. What is new for the event in Bergen is that all ocean industries are participating, and there is particularly high participation from the seafood industry.
– The seafood industry is undoubtedly one of Norway's industries of the future. When you look at the focus Bergen and Western Norway have within the seafood industry, this is quite natural, says Tanja Hoel, CEO of NCE Seafood.
New collaborations for new solutions
The cluster organizations representing the ocean industries are collaborating to secure the talents of the future. From seafood to shipping – Ocean Talent Camp is just one of a number of "cross over" initiatives that are planned.
– Innovation and new thinking are best when different types of related knowledge meet, says Owe Hagesæther, CEO of NCE Subsea.
