Although the industry is already doing a lot of good work in plastics, around 190,000 tons of plastic are in use in the industry at any given time, and only around 1/3 of this is recycled.

The goal is for most plastic to be recycled or end up in circular systems, rather than being incinerated or dumped in landfills. The report identifies six barriers that need to be addressed to achieve this and nine strategies for developing a more circular plastics economy in the industry.

CEO of NCE Seafood Trude Jansen Hagland presented the background to the report.

At the launch, NCE Seafood CEO Trude Jansen welcomed Hagland and gave an introduction to the report and its background. She also highlighted the objectives of the report.

– This report aims to initiate changes throughout the value chain, contribute to strategy development, and provide a basis and direction for national action and political discussions around this.

Dominik Flatten from the cluster and Sebastian Nyvoll from EY then presented highlights from the newly published report.

In addition, Stephan Kubowicz from SINTEF Industry presented "Plastics in Aquaculture: A circular economic guidebook", in which he highlighted both a report and the POCOplast project.

Finally, Solveig Holm from NCE Seafood led a panel discussion with:

  • Tor Eirik Homme from Grieg Seafood
  • Cecilie Lind from Handelens Miljøfond
  • Stephan Kubowicz from SINTEF Industry
  • Andreas Moe Larsen from Bremnes Seashore

You can watch the entire panel discussion in the clip below.
