This will happen on the same day that the UN's 193 member states adopt 17 new goals for sustainable development, at the UN General Assembly in New York.
The UN Sustainable Development Goals are a common work plan to eradicate poverty, combat inequality and halt climate change by 2030. With 17 goals and 169 targets, the Sustainable Development Goals are intended to serve as a common global direction for prioritized efforts over the next 15 years.
– This is a unique opportunity, which will require political will and political action, if the Sustainable Development Goals are to deliver the results we expect, says Trygve Ølfarnes, Deputy Head of UNDP's Nordic Representative Office.
The Sustainable Development Goals build on the successful Millennium Development Goals, but are more ambitious and broader in scope. The Sustainable Development Goals aim to provide the world with growth that takes into account social, economic, climate and environmental aspects for future generations.

The UN's new Sustainable Development Goals will apply to all countries in the world, including Norway. This means that the Sustainable Development Goals will have significance for Norwegian politics.
