– We believe that data sharing and standardization make it easier to make choices based on knowledge, says CEO of Marø Havbruk, Elin Tveit Sveen, on behalf of Marø Havbruk and E. Karstensen.
They are both family-owned fish farming companies and have operated together since 1996. Elin Tveit Sveen says that data sharing will be important for the further development of the industry, and an advantage for those who participate.
Want to increase the willingness to share
Kristian Blom, CEO of AquaCloud, says he is pleased to have Marø Havbruk and E. Karstensen on the data sharing team. He still hopes that more fish farming companies will join.
– Creating a willingness to share makes our data more attractive and makes it possible to create insight with data, which is the ultimate goal, says Blom.
They now have nine data providers, but what can sharing data contribute? Data provides insight, he says, adding that the industry is on a journey from becoming experience-based to becoming insight-based – through data.
– The power lies in the fact that there are many people collecting data for the industry. That's when we can really learn something.
Blom further explains that they will work on launching several concrete projects together with the farmers.
– We will also make major strides in the work around the sensor standard, new initiatives around fish health and fish welfare, including within standardization. We will also expand the data platform , he says.
Established to solve key challenges
AquaCloud is a data sharing platform established in 2017 and is working to develop datasets and data services to facilitate data exchange in the seafood industry. The goal is to help solve challenges that contribute to sustainable growth.
The company was established in NCE Seafood together with cluster members Lerøy Seafood, Grieg Seafood, Bremnes, Lingalaks and Bolaks. Today, AquaCloud is separated as a separate company, but it remains an important part of our focus on digital transformation and digitization.
