The Minister of Fisheries, together with Prime Minister Erna Solberg, today presented the government's master plan for marine research. The goal is more innovation and greater value creation.
These are the most important measures in the plan:
More money for marine research, both from the public sector and from the industry itself
Facilitate more marine industry clusters
Increased cooperation between research communities in Norway, including investigating co-location in Bergen
Increased internationalization
– The marine sector is the answer to many of the challenges facing the world: The need for increased food production, new energy sources and the green shift. Norway can compete at the top of the world in ocean-based industries. Then we must become better at prioritizing research funds and ensuring that research results in innovation and business development, whether it is about modernizing the traditional fishing industry, developing a sustainable aquaculture industry or developing completely new industries based on resources from the sea, says Fisheries Minister Elisabeth Aspaker.
The master plan is a concretization of the Government's long-term plan for research and higher education in the marine area. In the long-term plan, the Government announces that public allocations for research and development work will be increased to the equivalent of one percent of GDP. The annual allocations for marine research are included in the state budget. Master plan for marine research aspaker_forsideb
