The future is in the best hands

Creative solutions to real problems

In collaboration with Young Entrepreneurship, we have conducted 13 innovation camps at high schools during the fall of 2023. At innovation camps, creativity, creative joy and innovation are the core of a workshop where students work to find and present a solution to a problem.

In order for the students to become better acquainted with the seafood industry, they have been challenged to read about real challenges in the industry within three themes:

  1. Healthy eating and increased seafood consumption
  2. Increased value creation in the aquaculture industry
  3. Reducing plastic consumption in the aquaculture industry

Fride Iversen, senior project manager at NCE Seafood, is pleased with the autumn tour.

– The innovation camp in high school has been a project that greatly demonstrates the importance of presenting our industry to young people along the coast. The good discussions and conversations have been educational, motivating and inspiring. The future is in the best hands!

Some highlights from the innovation camps

At each camp, the best idea is chosen, and there have been many good solutions at the various camps. Everything from plasters made from fish skin to fish snacks and apps have been presented. At Danielsen Upper Secondary School in Bergen, kyst.no was present when the trio Maren, Esther and Jenny won with their idea of making life jackets from recycled plastic from the aquaculture industry.

– There were a lot of good ideas and we were impressed by the pitches from the other teams. So we are of course very happy that our solution was selected. Our idea was that we would make life jackets from recycled plastic from the aquaculture industry. We thought that you could make the insides of the life jackets from feed pipes and the fibers from recycled rope from the aquaculture industry to make the outside of the life jacket, they inform Kyst.no.

Bridge between business and students

At the various camps, different seafood companies have participated, and the students have been inspired and received advice from Lerøy Seafood, Grieg Seafood, Biomar, Ragn-Sells, Nutrimar, Patogen, Tekslo Seafood, Handelens Miljøfond, Cargill and the Seafood Council.

In addition, partner NHH has contributed with advice, in addition to carrying out a research project .

About innovation camp

Creativity, creative joy and innovation are the core of an innovation camp.

In the program, students are given a real assignment by NCE Seafood with a defined problem to which they must present a solution, within a limited period of time. In advance, NCE Seafood provides students with the background information they need to solve the challenge and offers and guidance throughout the process to increase the students' learning outcomes. Students work on the assignment in groups and present their solutions to a jury, which selects a winner based on given criteria.

Innovation camps are often used in the start-up phase of a student business, youth business or student enterprise.

The NCE Seafood industry cluster works for sustainable growth and development in the seafood industry, and one of the most important focus areas to achieve this is competence and future talent development.
