During One Ocean Week, we gathered 70 participants for a professional deep dive into this very question – in collaboration with Øygarden Municipality , Vest Næringsråd and Nordhordland Næringslag .
The seminar was led by our own Solveig Holm , senior project manager at NCE Seafood , who highlighted both challenges and opportunities in the industry through a strong academic program.
🤝Meeting places that create direction
As a cluster, we work to gather insight and contribute to solutions – across industry, research and policy. Events like this are one of many initiatives we take to create value for our members and promote knowledge and innovation in decision-making processes.
💬 It became clear that:
• The aquaculture report is important, but the content of the recommendation from the industry committee is just as crucial – Halfdan Mellbye , SANDS
• It must pay to be good, and fish welfare must be at the core of development – Nicolai Berg-Arnesen , Firda Seafood Group
• Innovation and technology development is happening – the industry wants it, and the industry is investing -Even Søfteland, PO3/4 Knowledge Incubator
• Shorter time in open cages and closures can reduce lice problems, but temperature changes in the sea also affect lice movement – something future regulations must take into account – Geir Lasse Taranger , Institute of Marine Research
• Environmental challenges must be viewed holistically – lice are one factor, but human-made impacts also play a major role for wild salmon – Anders Lamberg, Scandinavian Nature Monitoring
The panel discussion emphasized one thing: The path to growth runs through better dialogue, more knowledge, and political predictability.
Thanks to everyone who participated and shared insights – and to our partners who made the event possible.
