New RAS course for business actors!

A survey among our members and partners has shown us that there is a great need for expertise within RAS and the industry has an urgent need to update the expertise of its employees.

After last year's great success with the RAS course at UIB, they are now opening applications for this year's course. The teaching has been added to week 37, 12 - 16 September 2022. There will also be online teaching a couple of weeks before the weekly meeting in Bergen. You will receive more information about this in connection with admission to the course.

The course provides a basic understanding of the interaction between fish physiology, water quality, biofilter operation, and the technical structure and function of various components in a RAS system. The focus is on lectures, group work, discussions, and laboratory work at RAS facilities. Final assessment consists of a submitted project paper and laboratory journal, with a final oral exam.

After completing the course, you should be able to perform relevant sampling (water samples and biological samples) and be able to analyze and interpret the results, and be able to adapt the operation of a RAS facility according to environmental information and understanding of fish physiology. You should also be able to make calculations related to biomass, biofilter capacity and environmental conditions that ensure the best possible conditions, orient yourself in the regulations surrounding RAS and be able to reflect on sustainable bioproduction.

High focus on RAS in the cluster

To increase the offer of competence-raising measures within RAS, the cluster has initiated and run various projects within RAS: a new vocational school offer within RAS, training of teachers within RAS and continuing education courses within RAS.

In addition to the RAS courses, we have identified a need for digital training materials in RAS, and we have now completed 50 training films together with Blue Planet Academy. The videos show the construction of RAS plants, basic knowledge of water quality and biological aspects of RAS. The films will be available in Seapoint.
