Enters into cooperation with the Trade Environmental Fund

Will reduce plastic consumption and increase recycling

–By entering into a partnership with Norway's largest private environmental fund, we hope to give our members a better opportunity to work on plastic challenges, especially with regard to reducing plastic consumption and increasing recycling of plastic related to the seafood industry , says CEO of NCE Seafood, Nina Stangeland.

Stangeland adds that they also have an ambition to launch more circular business models around plastics across the players in the cluster.

The seafood industry has several challenges related to the use of plastic and therefore it is valuable for us at Handelens Miljøfond to initiate a collaboration on this with a player like NCE Seafood who works closely with the industry , says Cecilie Lind, CEO of Handelens Miljøfond.

The Norwegian Trade Environmental Fund points out, among other things, that items from fisheries and aquaculture rank highest in terms of weight among marine waste that has been mapped through beach clean-up campaigns.

First project starts in the new year

Stangeland and Dalen say that they are working on several projects that will be launched next year.

As early as the new year, we will start preparing an industry insight report on plastics in the aquaculture industry, but we also have several specific projects under both work and development in close collaboration with HMF , says Stangeland.

About the collaboration and partner one

NCE Seafood and the Norwegian Trade Environmental Fund have entered into a two-year collaboration to strengthen the industry's work with plastics, and a number of projects are planned over the next few years.

Handelens Miljøfond was founded in 2017 and is Norway's largest private environmental fund. They mainly finance projects that reduce the production and use of plastic, and increase plastic recycling. Members of HMF pay a fee of 1 krone per plastic carrier bag they buy or sell in Norway.
