«Valuechain»
Last week a new group of trainees started an exiting year attending the Seafood Trainee Program. Being a seafood trainee, allows the young graduates to acquire work experience in the seafood industry while taking part in academic modules that complement the previous education and current trainee posistion. In the first module, the theme for module is «Valuechain».
Presentations from the Cluster members
An important part of the program is the great presentations given by our Cluster members taking the trainees throught the seafood valuechain;
Breeding & Genetics – Benchmark Genetics
Fish Feed – Cargill
Production – Mowi
Sales – Ocean Quality
In addition to valuechain, we learned about Directorate of Fisheries and The Institute of Marine Researchs mandate. In the program the focus is on both AquaCulture and Fishery, and we got a great presentation from Norges Sildesalgslag who thought the trainees more about the pelagic fish valuechain.
Sustainability
The Coller FAIR Index ranks the largest global meat, diary and fish producers by looking at risk factors from use of antibiotics to deforestation and labour abuses. Mowi, Lerøy and Grig Seafood was all ranked by the top six in their index, and we were lucky to get presentations from Lerøy and Grieg Seafood on their sustainability strategy and actions to become even more sustainable.
Excursion
The highligt in the module, is the excursion to the fish farms. Visit the fish farms is very educational, and we are very grateful to Sævareid and Eide Fjordbruk who welcomed the inquisitive trainees.
Next modul in Trondheim
Next modul will be conducted in Trondheim and the theme of the module is Research and Innovation.
