Hatch will be back to visit Norway for two weeks from the 22nd of October to the 2nd of November. The purpose of the visit is to show the Irish cohort what a world-leading aquaculture cluster Bergen is.

HATCH In 2018 the Cluster partnered up with HATCH, the the world’s first start-up accelerator for aquaculture. The first accelerator wrapped up in Bergen in May and the next cohort will be located in Ireland, in Cork.

18. September, HATCH had Kick-off of the second cohort in Cork, Ireland. Six new aquaculture startups are participating in the accelerator program over the next three months.

Today the cohort are coming to Bergen, and will stay in Norway for two weeks visiting fish farms and our partners to learn about the Norwegian AquaCulture industry.

Participating companies HATCH autumn 2018:

Savitri Aquamonk

The India based innovation start-up brings technology inspired solutions,real-time monitoring and data management into the aquaculture industry. Their self-cleaning sensor-based IoT devices and environmental ERP farm management tool integrates operational and technical aquaculture data for farmers to better understand and conduct farming practices. Solar powered sensor modules automate real-time shrimp pond water and atmospheric data onto a user friendly dashboard. Savitri Aquamonk’s services and cloud-based dashboard ensures farmers can access and observe all their data 24/7. In addition to insight into the water quality of each pond, their dashboard helps farmers to better manage their power consumption, inventory, personnel and financial planning.

Prospective Research

One of the main challenges the aquaculture industry is facing today is access to sustainable health solutions. Prospective Research, Inc. are entering this multi-billion dollar animal-health market where they are able to control bacteria that cause diseases and mass mortality. Prospective Research, Inc. employs specific beneficial bacteria to promote an immuneresponse against harmful bacteria found in fish and shellfish. They adopt quorum sensing (bacterial language) to boost favourable reactions to fight back against invasions of destructive bacteria. While they already have a patented probiotic for shellfish, they are currently developing an additional two strains for the application for disease prevention in shrimp and salmon farming.

Wittaya Aqua

Wittaya Aqua boosts aquaculture profitability and sustainability by helping farmers regulate their feed admissions. They are an AgTech data and analytics startup developing a farm production management platform to increase farming efficiency through enabling better operational decision making. The platform is powered by the analysis of aggregated historical and in-situ fish growth data and driven by advanced mathematical and nutritional models which create value in optimizing feeding practices, reducing uncertainty in forecasting production, harvests and tracks commercially important benchmarks. www.wittaya-aqua.ca

Alune allows investors to invest in aquaculture operations with the highest standards in farming practice and worker conditions. through its farms Alune provides investors with highly competitive and liquid returns while regenerating damaged ecosystems.

Alune focuses on tropical aquaculture species, mainly of shrimp, and targets western investors.

Ictiobiotic are committed to developing environmentally friendly and novel oral biotherapeutics used to promote sustainable aquaculture. Their mission is to become a key supplier of oral biotherapeutics that help reduce diseases and improve the sanitary status of fish farms. Their products are aimed at helping the world consume healthy and sustainable protein from aquaculture, free of antibiotics and other chemicals. To achieve this, Ictiobiotic have developed a new class of oral biotherapeutics based on a proprietary platform of modified food grade microbes that express specific proteins to be used as immune-stimulants and vaccines.

The US based imaging company have developed a product which uses algorithms, AI and machine learning to measure real-time biomass and activity of aquatic species. Their product provides low cost, precision, and convenience to the collection of high resolution image data to accurately assess the performance of a farmer’s aquatic stock. They bring a practical and non-invasive solution to precise measuring of size, growth and behaviour of shrimp and fish. MinnowTech takes the guesswork out of underwater farming, helps farmers to better plan their production activities and predict future harvests based on real stock analyses.
