“Praktisk talt plast” – Online course about plastic handling

‘Pratisk talt plast’ is an online course about good management and handling of production equipment made of plastic for managers and operational personnel at fish farms. It has been developed in collaboration with the international environmental foundation Bellona, NTNU and Grieg Seafood, with funding from the Norwegian Retailers’ Environment Fund.

Background

Since 2018, Bellona and Grieg Seafood have been working together to tackle the seafood industry’s challenge related to its plastic consumption by establishing good recycling routines and identifying possible leaks.

The knowledge they have gathered has contributed to the making of the online course “Praktisk talt plast” and will be available for free for all employees in the aquaculture industry.

Project goals

The aim of the course is both to prevent plastic pollution and increase recycling rates. It is to increase the general knowledge in the industry about production equipment made of plastic (components) and what impact and importance its on-site handling has for recycling purposes.

“Praktisk talt plast” will be a valuable tool for employees in aquaculture and will be freely accessible.

Progress

Since 2018, Bellona and Grieg Seafood have collaborated to focus on the farming industry’s plastic consumption and map leaks into the environment. In order to provide the entire decentralized farming industry a vocational learning scheme that can have ripple effects both locally and globally, the work on the pilot module for the online course started in 2021. Parts of the course is available now, and part 5 will be launched in 2024.
