The six year project “Kapasitetsløft for bærekraftig og innovativ sjømatproduksjon” (“Capacity development for sustainable and innovative seafood production") that started in spring 2018, is now halfway through its course.
The Research Council has carried out a mid-term evaluation of KABIS and the project received a score that exceeded the other ongoing capacity building projects. This has granted the project funding for a new three-year period. The project continues the work of strengthening ongoing activities and initiatives and build a lasting structure that can continue after the project is completed in 2023.
This autumn, KABIS submitted a mid-term evaluation to the Norwegian Research Council, showing results and deliveries in the project. The evaluation shows, among other things, that the project is on track in the areas of competence and knowledge development. The project has carried out an extensive boost of various subjects and courses at UiB and HVL, and it has provided increased professional capacity.
In order to accommodate a more environmentally friendly aquaculture industry that also improves fish welfare, an imminent goal is to reduce the duration of the sea-phase in salmon farming.
